My name is Nayab Khokhar, I'm twenty-one years old, I'm in my second year of Legal Studies at UOIT, and this introduction seems incredibly forced. But James seemed pretty keen on pushing this forum idea, and personally I think it's a neat idea too.
My ancestors were the advisers of Emperors during the final years of the Mughal Empire in India in the 1800s, and were originally Khans but changed their names to Khokhar when they were forced to flee during the British occupation. So that's something you probably didn't know about me.
I write fantasy and science-fantasy stories, and have a penchant for world-building. I'm currently working on an ambitious project with the tentative title Archipelago. As brevity is the soul of wit, I will be brief:
The story takes place in a world where the earth was shattered into pieces after a great cataclysm thousands of years before the story begins. The modern world is comprised of these floating islands, thus the name Archipelago. The dominant force in the world is the Imperium, which is jointly ruled by the Triumverate Races: humankind, the lythén, and the rettek.
Lythén are a bipedal, tridactyl, mammalian race with translucent skin in various hues of white, yellow, and lighter blues and greens. They tend to be more gifted in magic than other species, but this is more due to their cultural views than a biological aptitude for magic. Rettek are a reptillian species with a limber build. They're pentadactyl like humans, but have longer and slender fingers in comparison. Their tails are longer than the rest of their bodies, so in polite company with other races they tend to wrap their tails around their waists. Social etiquette courses exist where they learn to walk without tripping when they've wrapped their tails around themselves.
There are other species which are subjugated by the triumvirate species' to varying degrees, but I haven't even begun actually talking about the story itself. A sibling duo of humans, Damian and Este, are forced to flee their home with a travelling merchant named Sindbad (a not-even-slightly-subtle nod to the Arabian Nights) when the island of Roc's Roost is attacked by the creatures I haven't thought of a suitable name for yet. Kind of cliché, but they don't end up orphans, so... slightly less cliché! They end up on board Elation, an island-airship hybrid, which is covertly investigating the raids on remote colonies because the Imperium doesn't quite acknowledge that anything is amok. I have a rough plot-line spanning years, which is why I referred to this as an ambitious project.
Anyway, that's me. Ta da!
